Laboratory


The Clinical Laboratory at Iroquois Memorial Hospital provides laboratory services to inpatients, outpatients, physician offices and medical clinics, nursing homes and businesses throughout the IMH service area.

The Clinical Laboratory consists of several departments, including Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology/Virology, Histology and Transfusion (Blood Bank) Services. The Clinical Laboratory is supervised by Board Certified Pathologists and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Testing is performed on patients of any age, from Neonates to Geriatric patients.

The Anatomic Pathology Laboratory provides services daily as needed to expedite surgical and cytological reports to physicians. The Clinical Laboratory and Anatomic Pathology departments are accreditied by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of 1988 and also by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

The Clinical Laboratory and Anatomic Pathology provides a full spectrum of services including (but not limited to): obtaining blood specimens, analyzing blood and body fluids, culture of body fluids, culture of body substances to isolate and identify pathogens to determine effective antibiotic treatment, compatibility testing and provision of blood and blood components, and analyzing tissues and fluids to detect pathological conditions.
