Working together with referring physicians and in cooperation with the Radiology department, our Speech Pathologist performs Modified Barium Swallow Studies which examine the anatomy and physiology of swallow function using videofluoroscopy. This study determines if aspiration of food or liquids occurs upon trial swallows and assesses overall risk for aspiration when an individual eats and drinks, as well as helping to determine appropriate compensatory swallow strategies and therapeutic techniques to improve swallow function. Therapy can be done in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Speech pathology services are provided at Iroquois Memorial Hospital and Resident Home as well as the Iroquois Regional Health Center.
